DHAKA, 2nd April 2017 (WAM) - Dr. Amal Abdullah Al Qubaisi, Speaker of the Federal National Council, FNC, delivered a presentation on Sunday before the 136th meeting of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, IPU, and the 200th session of the Union's Governing Council, held in Dhaka.
Dr. Amal Al Qubaisi focussed her presentation on the Global Summit of Women Speakers of Parliament, GSWSP, which was held in Abu Dhabi in December last year under the theme "United for Shaping the Future."
The summit, held under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, President of the General Women’s Union, GWU, Supreme President of the Family Development Foundation, and President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and in collaboration with the IPU, was attended by more than 50 women speakers from parliaments around the world, as well as major global leaders from across government, business, industry and society.
Among the 1,000 participants attending the event, 400 were members of parliaments representing 50 countries. One hundred of them were from the Arab world.
Headlined by nearly 100 prominent influencers and thought-leaders, panels were held for 100 youth delegates who were given the opportunity to interact with prominent members of parliament from throughout the world.
Al Qubaisi said the summit was a landmark in international parliamentary work. She added that the summit's major outcome was the "Abu Dhabi Declaration," which was released at the closing session under the title, "United for Shaping the Future," for a better world.
"The Abu Dhabi Declaration genuinely expressed the collective will of the world's women speakers for joint global action," she told the gathering.
