UAE hosts UN water experts to assess Underground Recharge Project

Dubai, 26th April, 2015 (WAM) -- The Ministry of Environment and Water has hosted experts from the United Nations University Institute for Water, Environment and Health (UNU-INWEH), during a mission to monitor and evaluate recharge wells at dammed lakes.

This comes as part of the Ministry’s efforts to improve environmental performance and sustainability, as called for in the UAE Vision 2021.

The UN water experts inspected phases of implementation of the Underground Recharge Project from dams and lakes, where waters were directly discharged into streams for the first time during the last rainy season.

Abdul Nasser Al Shamsi, acting Director of Dams Department at the Ministry, said the UN experts’ mission had come as part of the framework of joint cooperation and exchanges of expertise, as well as being within the scope of the Ministry's efforts to achieve its strategic objective to improve the integrated management to assure the sustainability of water resources.
