RIYADH, 26th August, 2016 (WAM) – President of Yemen Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi and Brigadier Salim Abdullah Alsocotri, Governor of Socotra Archipelago, have reviewed the service and humanitarian projects being implemented in the governorate, at the expense of the UAE, represented by the Emirates Red Crescent, the Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation and the Sheikh Sultan Bin Khalifa Al Nahyan Humanitarian and Scientific Foundation.
These projects include the reconstruction of houses affected by the cyclones (Chapala and Megh), renovation of schools and mosques, and provision of modern fishing boats to fishermen.
During the meeting, held at the residence of President Hadi in Riyadh, they discussed the security, social and humanitarian situation in the governorate.
The Governor of Socotra briefed the president on the difficulties being faced by Socotra, especially during the season of severe winds that isolate the governorate amid the absence of regular civil flights. He added that these problems compound the suffering of citizens, especially the sick, businessmen and students studying in other governorates.
President Hadi thanked the UAE and the Arab coalition countries, particularly the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, on the generous support to the Yemeni people, both in Socotra and other Yemeni governorates.
The Governor of Socotra extended his thanks to the Arab coalition states for their support to the legitimacy in Yemen, and their endeavour to restore the security, stability and lasting peace in accordance with the GCC initiative and its mechanisms, and the resolutions of the comprehensive national dialogue, as well as implementation of UN Security Council Resolutions, especially Resolution Number 2216.
