Emirates Red Crescent sends more aid to Yemenis in Mokha

MOKHA, 16th February, 2017 (WAM) -- The Emirates Red Crescent on Wednesday delivered a large amount of humanitarian aid to the residents of the Yemeni city of Mokha, which was recently liberated by the Arab Coalition from Houthi militants.

Twenty trucks carried foodstuff such as dates and other supplies, including tents and blankets, to the residents as part of the Emirati humanitarian agency’s constant efforts to help the city.

The UAE’s initiative is driven by the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan to help the people of Yemen at times of crisis.

The residents expressed special thanks to the UAE, a member of the Arab Coalition, for helping liberate the city and delivering relief.

The Emirates Red Crescent also re-opened the public hospital in Mokha and provided staff for emergency and maternity units. It also replenished supplies of medicine and infant formula at the pharmacy unit.

Tens of Yemeni patients and a number of fighters from the pro-government Yemeni National Resistance were treated at the hospital.

The agency is also monitoring the city’s public water supply and has provided pumps and pipes to repair the damage caused by the coup militias.

An engineering team is assessing the damage to the city’s infrastructure, houses and schools.

The Emirates Red Crescent had provided hundreds of tents to the residents whose houses were destroyed.
