National Army movements aim to protect citizens, says Yemeni government

ADEN, 17th February, 2017 (WAM) -- "Movements of the Arab Coalition-backed Yemeni National Army to liberate areas of the western coast from the control of Houthi-Saleh militias come within the mandate of the legitimate government to end the suffering of citizens and protect them from violations by rebels who did not respect international charters and laws,'' a government statement has said.

''The army’s movements are at the heart of the government work and duties to protect citizens. Citizens in the western coasts are enduring flagrant oppression and violations of their human rights, including arrests, forced disappearances, forced recruitment of children, extrajudicial killings, deprivation of humanitarian assistance and explosion of homes, at the hands of forces loyal to the Houthi-Saleh militias,'' the government said in a statement published by the Yemeni News Agency.

The statement added that the government, in collaboration with the King Salman Centre for Relief and Humanitarian Aid, the Emirates Red Crescent and other relief organisations, are providing assistance to key facilities in Mokha city and other cities at the south of the Red Sea, after they were liberated from the control of the rebels.
