RIYADH, 20th April, 2017 (WAM) -- Mohammed Jalal Al Raisi, Executive-Director of the Emirates News Agency, WAM, has praised the high level of bilateral ties and strong co-operation between the news agencies of GCC countries during a meeting which took place today in Riyadh, noting the necessity of strengthening co-operation and widening horizons to contribute in developing media in the Gulf region.
Speaking on the sidelines, he said that media organisations in GCC countries have the expertise, qualifications, abilities and elements to compete with international media.
He added that WAM, and as part of its plans to keep pace with the changes taking place in media, the advances in digital technology and the speed of transferring information and news, has launched many applications that allow users to easily access a wide range of information and news, as well as other services offered by WAM.
Al Raisi highlighted the application, called "WAM Live", available at Apple and Google online app stores, which comes as part of National Media Council plans to keep pace with electronic service advances and technological developments to achieve its vision to develop the media sector.
He clarified that the new application will enable users to view news and updates as soon as they occur and according to their interests, whether local news, sports or economic news, as well as provide the option to view news items of interest.
He added that WAM is working on expanding and preparing interactive electronic screens to broadcast "Live WAM", and placing these in many important areas of the country, such as airports and shopping malls.
He also revealed WAM’s next application, called "WAM Editor", which gives journalists the ability to post news from anywhere in the world using their smartphones or tablets, according to a flexible method that guarantees quality editing and quick transmission, adding to the "WAM" news application that was launched last week.
The meeting, headed by Mohannad Sulaiman Al Nuaimi, Director-General of the Bahrain News Agency, discussed a number of topics on its work schedule, which aims to strengthen joint co-operation to serve the unified Gulf media.
A discussion also took place about the work procedures to carry out the vision of King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud to strengthen integration between GCC countries and prioritise joint work in the Gulf.
