UAE doctors conclude third phase of volunteer programmes in Zanzibar

ZANZIBAR, 31st May, 2017 (WAM) -- A group of UAE doctors have concluded the third phase of their volunteer programmes in Zanzibar by treating over 10,000 children and elderly patients in mobile clinics and hospitals, as part of the giving campaign to treat over one million children and elderly patients.

The programmes were implemented under the slogan, "Giving is Happiness", under a joint initiative by the Zayed Giving Initiative, Dar Al Ber, Sharjah Charity International, the Saudi-German Hospital and the Emirates Volunteer Centre, in co-ordination with the Ministry of Health, as an exceptional model of joint volunteer humanitarian, medical and youth action.

The humanitarian missions of the UAE doctors and the Zayed Giving Convoys are implemented under the framework of joint action between UAE and Tanzanian health, volunteer and humanitarian institutions, in line with the directives of the wise leadership for 2017 to be the Year of Giving and in response to an official invitation from health and volunteer institutions. The programme is part of an annual volunteer programme to reach out to thousands of children and elderly patients in various Tanzanian villages, reflecting the depth of relations between both countries and promoting the joint volunteer actions of their medical personnel.

The current mission of the UAE doctors in Zanzibar was supervised by a group of senior doctors, chaired by UAE cardiac surgeon Dr. Adel Al Shameri, Executive Director of the Zayed Giving Initiative. They are divided into four medical teams.

Officials from the Zanzibar Ministry of Health praised the efforts of the volunteer doctors, who efficiently contributed to finding realistic solutions and reducing the suffering of thousands of patients.

Children and elderly patients treated by the UAE doctors expressed their appreciation for their efforts, to provide the best free medical services.
