IAEA conference in Abu Dhabi discusses challenges facing peaceful nuclear energy programmes

ABU DHABI, 31st October, 2017 (WAM) -- Experts participating in the 'International Ministerial Conference on Nuclear Power in the 21st Century' in Abu Dhabi have discussed the challenges faced in developing peaceful nuclear energy infrastructure and reliability.

In a keynote address, Dr. Bismark Tyobeka, CEO of the National Nuclear Regulator in South Africa, reviewed the challenges of developing a robust institutional infrastructure for peaceful nuclear energy, including those of financial nature.

Finland’s Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority, STUK, Director-General, Petteri Tiippana, discussed security, safety and non-proliferation mechanisms in the face of the challenges of expanding world nuclear power, long-term operation of nuclear power plants and a number of technological innovations.

The final day of the conference will include a plenary session to discuss the latest developments and technological innovations in the field of peaceful nuclear energy.
