Tolerance in UAE a major aspect of its soft power: Nahyan bin Mubarak

ABU DHABI, 23rd November, 2017 (WAM) -- Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister for Tolerance, stated that tolerance requires the maintaining of moral values, dealing with others from different cultures and religions, establishing the culture of peace and avoiding conflicts, building relations on humanitarian foundations based on mercy and equality, as well as establishing the principles of justice, equality and human rights, and correcting false information and concepts about religions.

In his speech today at the end of a session of the Aqdar World Summit, titled, "Moral Education and Strengthening the Culture of Tolerance in the UAE and International Communities," he explained that tolerance in the UAE is a major aspect of its soft power.

"We have a clear concept of tolerance, which includes moral education and education, as well as promoting awareness about both, which protects the youth from being dragged into the clutches of terrorism. Raising awareness about Islam’s principles and establishing good manners and culture in the souls of the youth also protect them from corruption and extremism," Sheikh Nahyan said.

"We, in the country, are proud of our leadership’s confidence in the ability of the UAE’s children to fulfil their responsibilities in preserving all our accomplishments, and they consider our youth as the country’s future," he added.

Sheikh Nahyan stressed that both moral education and education can help to develop the principles of honesty, generosity and responsibility, as well as the ability to distinguish between right and wrong while highlighting his pride for the initiative to adopt moral education in the curriculum of schools, to prepare future generations to take their responsibilities.

He also affirmed that moral education is not only about teaching the concept of morals in theory, but it must also present a social model and develop the good qualities of the youth.

Sheikh Nahyan pointed out that moral education is part of the characteristics of the UAE’s children while citing the qualities of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and his treatment of and love for the children, and his respect for everyone residing in the country.

He welcomed the hosting of this important summit and directed his appreciation to its patron, H.H. Lieutenant General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, and all its participants who strive for moral education to be part of an international curriculum. He also wished that the summit can produce recommendations that will establish moral values in the souls of the nation’s youth, to achieve their hopes and aspirations.

The three-day Aqdar World Summit will featured conferences, workshops, interactive sessions, poster presentations, and an exhibition..
