ABU DHABI, 26th November, 2017 (WAM) -- The UAE and the Russian Federation have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to support Russia's official bid to host the Global Manufacturing and Industrialisation Summit, GMIS, in conjunction with the UNIPROM International Industry Fair in the Russian city of Yekaterinburg in July 2019. The request follows GMIS' successful inauguration in March 2017 in Abu Dhabi.
Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, GMIS is a joint initiative of the Ministry of Economy and the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation, UNIDO.
Russia's bid to host the summit is the first of its kind at the state level.
The signing came during the meeting of the UAE- Russian Business Forum which was hosted by the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry today in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. The MoU was signed by the Russian Minister of Industry and Trade Denis Valentinovich Manturov and Badr Salim Sultan Al Olama, Head of the Summit Organising Committee in the presence of the Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansouri, Minister of Economy and the Mayor of Yekaterinburg.
"The Russian bid to host the summit is a testament to the pioneering industrial role played by the UAE internationally and the coveted success achieved by the country in launching its strategy for the Fourth Industrial Revolution," said Al Olama.
The inaugural Summit which was held in March in Abu Dhabi offered a voice and a venue for leaders with a vision to shape the future of manufacturing with a hand-selected audience of over 1,200 delegates, including Heads of State, Government Leaders, Ministers, Policy Makers and C-Suite Executives from global 2000 companies.
