Suqia sponsors innovation-oriented competition for children

DUBAI, 7th December, 2017 (WAM) -- UAE Water Aid, Suqia, has sponsored the 'Designathon 2017', an international design competition, aimed to involve children in the design and development of innovative solutions and concepts, to create a better future for everyone.

The competition, which was held in Dubai for the first time under the theme, "Water," gathered around 500 students aged between 7 and 12 from 18 cities around the world.

At the end of the competition, the participating students presented their work for final evaluation by a committee of specialised experts, which included a representative of Suqia, to decide on the four winning projects.

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Suqia, said, "In line with the directives of the Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, to care for the youth and raise the awareness of future generations about the environment, natural resources and sustainable development, we aim, in Suqia, to support the launch of initiatives and activities dedicated to future generations, out of our faith in the importance of developing the creativity and innovation of our children and youth, especially on issues related to sustainability."

Mohammed Abdulkareem Al Shamsi, Acting Executive Director of Suqia, stated that the competition is part of Suqia’s efforts to spread awareness among school students about water issues and how to rationalise its consumption. "It is also about preserving the environment and natural resources, promoting innovation among the youth and encouraging them to think outside the box, to find innovative solutions and support green practices."
