SHARJAH, 7th December, 2017 (WAM) -- H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, will attend the second Global NCD (Non-Communicable Diseases) Alliance Forum, taking place on December 9th-11th in Sharjah.
The organisers, NCD Alliance, have chosen the emirate to host the first two editions of the event, where key NCD health experts from around the world will deliberate on best methodologies to curb the spread of non-communicable diseases which, statistics show, are responsible for more than 40 million deaths globally each year.
The three-day forum is held under the patronage of H.H. Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, wife of Ruler of Sharjah, the Founder and Royal Patron of the Friends of Cancer Patients Society (FoCP), International Ambassador for the World Cancer Declaration of the Union for International Cancer Control and International Ambassador for Childhood Cancer, who will attend the event.
The forum's theme ‘Stepping up the Pace for NCDs: Making 2018 count’, reaffirms the NCD Alliance’s commitment to put intentions into action. NCDs – mainly cancer, cardiovascular disease, chronic respiratory diseases and diabetes – account for 68 percent of global mortality, or two out of every three deaths.
In keeping with the commitment to provide practical resources, a key focus of this year’s forum is to mobilise high-level political leadership to address NCDs, 80 percent of which occur in low- and middle-income countries.
