ABU DHABI, 13th December, 2017 (WAM) -- H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union, GWU, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation, FDF, has called on Muslim scholars and Islamic institutions to exert efforts in making the central tenets of Islam accessible, to further encourage peaceful co-existence, assist young Muslims with their identity, and spread moderate thought and understanding.
Sheikha Fatima’s remarks came during a meeting with a delegation from the "Forum for Promoting Peace in Muslim Societies." She emphasised the need for dialogue with young people to end negative stereotypes about religions and cultures, and to address the Islamophobia portrayed in mainstream media and social networking sites.
She affirmed the importance of the Forum, which aims to shed light on the authentic image of Islam and the role that scholars play to eliminate misconceptions and ill-practices that lead to negative perspectives of the Islamic faith.
She called on the scholars to spread knowledge and awareness of Islam and its message of tolerance, brotherhood, and love among humanity.
Sheikha Fatima went on to say that the UAE's principles of tolerance and co-existence were laid down by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who actively engaged with other societies and cultures to achieve peace and understanding between them.
Her Highness added the under the leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, the UAE continues the legacy of our Founding Father, becoming a global destination where over 200 nationalities reside in harmony and respect for each other.
"Emirati women also play a great role in spreading tolerance among society, by raising their children with the right behaviour and love of others, strengthening the bonds of kinship among all," Sheikha Fatima continued.
The delegation praised the UAE's role, under the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed, in attaining peace and good for all its citizens and residents, spreading the values of tolerance and co-existence among the nation's population, while maintaining its position as a leading country representing the Arab and Islamic nations.
The meeting was attended by Sheikha Lubna bint Khalid Al Qasimi, President of Zayed University; Noura bint Mohammed Al Kaabi, Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development; Noura Al Suwaidi, Director-General of the GWU, and Reem Al Falasi, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood.
