RAS AL KHAIMAH, 9th February, 2018 (WAM) -- Ras al-Khaimah has successfully concluded its Dubai Tour Stage, with Elia Viviani emerging from the peloton to cross the city centre finish line first. Stage 2 of the fifth edition of the Dubai Tour took competitors representing 16 professional teams from around the world on a 190km route from Skydive Dubai through Sharjah and Ajman finishing in Ras al-Khaimah.
Congratulating participants at the finish line, Haitham Mattar, CEO of Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority, RAKTDA, said, "The Ras al-Khaimah Stage of the Dubai Tour is the longest of the five stages and is a great achievement for those who have competed today. The emirate has long been favoured by training athletes across various practices for its diverse landscape and unique natural assets."
"Over the past few years, RAKTDA has worked with a number of partners to host a wealth of sporting events across the emirate, including the European Golf Challenge Tour and the RAK Half Marathon. Hosting the Dubai Tour again this year expands the emirate’s presence on the international sporting arena and we look forward to hosting many more major sporting events in the future."
Ras al-Khaimah’s untouched landscape, such as the country’s highest mountain peak, Jebel Jais, 64km of pristine coastline, and further hidden gems provide cyclists with the ideal playground for mountain biking, desert excursions and touring. The emirate’s growing cycling community enjoys a diversity of two-wheel options – from the dedicated cycle lanes on Marjan Island, to mountain biking in Jabel Jabir, Jebel Jais and Wadi Showka, or fatbiking in the dunes of Wadi Khadija and Al Dhait.
