DUBAI, 13th March, 2018 (WAM) -- Dubai has received three delegations from Hong Kong, Macao and Chinese Taipei who will participate in the Special Olympics IX MENA Games, which will be held in Abu Dhabi from 14th to 23rd March, 2018, to prepare for the Special Olympics World Summer Games 2019 in Abu Dhabi and as part of the "Hosting Cities Programme."
The programme aims to cooperate with every region of the UAE to promote awareness about the abilities of people of determination with mental disabilities and integrate them into the community, as well as to enable its participants and their families to learn about the UAE and its noble values of unity, tolerance, compassion and safety, and its effort to achieve solidarity between all members of the community.
The programme’s activities will take place in Dubai from 12th to 15th March, 2018, and will include visits to important local sites.
The delegations will learn about the heritage of the UAE during a traditional dinner ceremony, organised by the General Secretariat of the Dubai Executive Council, in partnership with the Dubai Police, the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority and the Dubai Museum at Al Fahidi Fort.
Dr. Amena Al Mazmi, Acting Director of the Social Development Policies and Strategies Administration at the Dubai Executive Council, highlighted the emirate’s readiness to receive the delegations, as per the directives of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council, to achieve the programme’s goals and showcase Dubai’s position as an ideal environment to integrate people of determination.
Abu Dhabi will host the Special Olympics IX MENA Games with the participation of over 1,200 athletes, competing in 16 sports, from 33 countries. The events will take place in eight locations - the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, ADNEC, Zayed Sports City, Yas Marina Circuit, New York University Abu Dhabi, the Police Officers Club, Mubadala Arena, Al Jazeera Sports Club and Al Forsan Club.
