ABU DHABI, 10th May, 2018 (WAM) -- A UAE newspaper has said that with each passing day, Iranian-backed Houthi militias in Yemen are facing heavy losses both in lives and equipment. Successive defeats are forcing them to flee the front lines.

"The war, imposed by the Houthi rebels, has had a severe impact on the Yemeni people and on the country’s economy," said The Gulf Today in an editorial on Thursday.

The paper continued, "Owing to their arrogance, the Houthis are refusing to learn lessons and are only increasing the agony of the common Yemeni citizens who are suffering more and more. The militias have proved time and again that they do not want to give peace any chance at all.

"Iran’s involvement in providing the Houthi militias with qualitative potentials, in a flagrant defiance of the international community, to jeopardise Saudi stability and security in particular and the regional as well as world security, is deplorable.

"Saudi Air Defence Forces on Wednesday intercepted a ballistic missile launched by the Iranian-backed Houthi militias from Yemen’s Saada Governorate towards the Kingdom’s territory."

As the spokesman of the Arab Coalition Forces Supporting Legitimacy in Yemen, Colonel Turki Al Malki, points out, the missile was launched in the direction of the city of Jazan by the militia deliberately to target civilian and populated areas.

Last Sunday, the Saudi Air Defence Forces had intercepted two ballistic missiles launched by the Houthi militia backed by Iran from within the territory of Yemen, north of Amran governorate, towards the Kingdom’s territory.

"Such firing of ballistic missiles towards populated cities and villages is contrary to international humanitarian law," added the UAE daily.

Yemen’s Red sea Coast is witnessing large-scale battles on the Mocha Al Barah Junction, west of Taiz, over new areas, with the UAE Armed Forces, within the pro-legitimacy Arab Coalition, seeking to liberate the regions from the grip of the Houthis, secure the Red Sea Coast and lift the siege on Taiz from the West.

The liberation of the Hodeidah Port, which will be achieved soon with support from the Arab Coalition and the UAE Armed Forces, will deal a crippling blow to the Houthi militias who once used it for their illicit operations.

It will also help cut off their main artery for Iranian supplies of weapons that are used against the Yemeni people. Iran’s support for the Houthi militias and its plan to implement its subversive agenda in the region are the root causes of trouble.

"The significant collapse of the Houthi militias in most battlefronts should open their eyes to reality about their impending complete defeat," concluded the Sharjah-based daily.
