People of Determination Retreat milestone promoting culture of tolerance, acceptance: Ministers

ABU DHABI, 10th March, 2019 (WAM) -- The People of Determination Retreat held today to mark the Special World Olympics 2019 translates the directives of the UAE leadership to integrate this important segment of society across all sectors and to inculcate the culture of tolerance and acceptance of others, according to a number of UAE ministers.

Dr. Abdul Rahman bin Mohammad Al Owais, Minister of Health and Prevention, said the country is keen to provide excellent health services to People of Determination. "Therefore, over the coming period, we aim to provide them and their caretakers with a comprehensive health insurance as well as to establish a comprehensive health services policy, to cover their needs at all ages, and establish a "National Diagnosis Council."

Sultan bin Saeed Al Badi Al Dhaheri, Minister of Justice, said that the UAE always provides legal and legislative assistance, as well as material and moral support to People of Determination. "At the Ministry of Justice, we aim to establish a national knowledge portal, which will include all relevant laws and services addressing their needs and requirements."

Nasser bin Thani Al Hamli, Minister of Human Resources and Emiratisation, said that based on "our faith in the national role of People of Determination in our society, and their valuable contributions to the UAE’s private sector, we are keen to prioritise them in our policies and programmes of Emiratisation and in the Ministry’s services, through encouraging the private sector to employ People of Determination in jobs that match their qualifications and skills."

Hessa Essa Buhumaid, Minister of Community Development,noted that "the People of Determination Retreat is a key and defining step in the journey of giving. It is a defining moment as we can all share our national, humanitarian and social responsibilities for the future of People of Determination, as well as ensure their integration and empowerment into a community filled with giving."

Dr. Ahmad bin Abdullah Humaid Belhoul Al Falasi, Minister of State for Higher Education and Advanced Skills, said that, "Our wise leadership has prioritised People of Determination, and we have placed them at the forefront of our strategies. People of Determination are an essential part of the UAE’s workforce, and are active contributors to its sustainable development. We aim to enable them to join the country’s higher education institutions, as well as develop their skills and qualify them to enter and compete in the labour market."

Dr. Sultan bin Ahmad Sultan Al Jaber, Minister of State, Chairman of the National Media Council, underlined the UAE wise leadership's commitment to continue to establish the culture of acceptance and tolerance, and contain various segments of society.

"In accordance with this policy, our national media focuses on establishing a balanced community culture, by supporting People of Determination and streamlining their involvement in representing their country, internally and externally. We always encourage our media institutions to create content in sign language and real-time captioning to ensure People of Determination's access to world news and developments. With the UAE hosting the Special Olympics World Games 2019, we call on all media outlets to develop appropriate content that addresses the target audience, both inside and outside the country, with the objective of highlighting the rapid pace of development witnessed in our country, across all fronts."

Ohoud bint Khalfan Al Roumi, Minister of State for Happiness and Wellbeing and Director-General of the Prime Minister’s Office, said that the People of Determination Retreat, which coincides with the launch of the Special Olympics World Games 2019 in Abu Dhabi, reflects the directives of the UAE’s leadership to focus on integrating People of Determination in all areas of life and work, as well as to empower them to perform their pivotal roles in serving the community and nation."
