FUJAIRAH, 9th April, 2019 (WAM) -- The regular meeting of the Board of Directors of the International Thalassemia Federation, which was held in Fujairah and Ras Al Khaimah on 7th and 8th April, concluded today.
Sheikha Sheikha bint Saif bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, Member of the Board of Directors of the International Thalassemia Federation and Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the UAE Thalassemia Association, and Panos Angelios, President of the Federation, along with members of the federation’s board were present during the meeting.
Sheikha Sheikha said that the UAE’s hosting of the federation’s 14 board members represents progress in its history, as its regular meetings used to only be held in the United Kingdom, UK, which confirms the key role of the UAE in serving Thalassemia patients while highlighting the country’s establishment of specialist centres according to the best international standards.
She added that the federation’s agenda covers various aspects of Thalassemia and other blood diseases, with the aim of reducing the spread of the disease in the region and around the world while praising the role of the federation, led by Angelios.
Angelios praised the UAE’s role in supporting Thalassemia patients and providing them with the best services, and as well as the key role of the Ministry of Health and other relevant health authorities.
He also praised the efforts of H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, Adviser to the UAE President, via the Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan Humanitarian and Scientific Foundation, to improve the lives of patients, especially those suffering from Thalassemia.
The meeting discussed related scientific research and the federation’s future plans and budget, as well as its new strategy to access the latest scientific developments that will serve Thalassemia patients around the world, along with ways of promoting awareness campaigns and health programmes related to Thalassemia prevention, and the latest treatments.
