Dh 250 million hospital to be set up in Dubai
ABU DHABI, Feb 2, 2002 (WAM)--The Varkey Group, which owns and manages Welcare Hospital, have introduced their newly established arm, American Healthcare Management Systems Ltd (AHMSL), in the UAE. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between Emaar Properties and AHMSL for construction of a new, world-class 300-bed hospital to be built next to Emaar's Gold and Diamond Park facility in Jumeirah, according to reports in the UAE's dailies. The project, estimated to cost around Dh250 million, will feature medical facilities which have previously been unavailable in the UAE, such as organ transplant units, cardio-thoracic surgery facilities and complete oncology servicing units. A specialist hospital architect will soon be appointed to design the hospital and the first phase will feature a 100-bed capacity wing. As its first major contract, AHMSL will take over total facility management of the multi-speciality hospital, poised to be the region's largest hospital. Through a number of strategic alliances with reputed names in the field of healthcare in the US and healthcare specialists, HSG Philipp Holzmann Technischer Service GmbH (Germany), AHMSL was created with the objective of providing quality management and consultancy services to healthcare service providers within the GCC region, South Africa, the Far East and beyond. The MoU was signed by Alabbar and Sunny Varkey, Chairman of the Welcare Hospital and Varkey Group. WAM-VV
