TechnoPark signs MoU with WAITRO for cooperation with members


WAM WAM Dubai, Feb.6th,2008 (WAM) -- TechnoPark, the science and technology facilitator of Economics Zones World, announced Wednesday that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with World Association of Industrial and Technological Research Organizations (WAITRO).

The MoU aims establishing a structured framework for close interaction and initiatives with WAITRO member organizations in a broad spectrum of industry-oriented services and projects.

Under the agreement, the two parties will work together towards the creation and development of professional and successful organizational structures within TechnoPark.

In the Memorandum, both sides confirmed some priority fields of cooperation for running successfully Public Private Partnerships to speed up innovation and technology transfer, Cooperation between WAITRO members and TP to strengthen the formation of technology clusters and to link it to some strong R and D of the world, And a strategic cooperation and arrangements between WAITRO members and TP and other subsidiaries of Dubai World.

The agreement, signed by Hamad Al Hashemi, Managing Director, TechnoPark and Dr. Dieter R. Fuchs, President, WAITRO, will define the next phases in the roadmap for development of TechnoPark and future sustainable development between the industrial sector and application-oriented R and D institutions.

Hamad Al Hashemi said: 'We are very pleased to partner with WAITRO and hope this is the beginning of a long-term strategic alliance. Our partnership will encourage, facilitate, and open channels for TechnoPark and WAITRO member organizations from developing nations to jointly work together on application-oriented scientific research, sustainable local capacity building, contributing to long-term market stability and ultimately furthering economic growth.' He added: 'Looking at the bigger picture, it gives us an opportunity to develop TechnoPark not only as the core think-tank of the Arab World but also a vital centre that can be relied on for its cutting-edge R and D services that promote long-term sustainable development in regional countries.' WAITRO sees this partnership as a long-term strategic alliance towards cooperation in one of the world's fastest growing business environments even outside the UAE. Therefore, there will be good options in those countries where EZW have large scale investments and long term commitment, and wishes to supplement these businesses by sustainable local capacity building, research and technology oriented measures for the benefit of the partner countries The World Association of Industrial and Technological Research Organizations (WAITRO) is an independent, non-governmental and not-for-profit association established in 1970 to promote and encourage cooperation among industrial and technological research and development organizations (RTOs). It was founded under the auspices of the United Nations system and has consultative status with many of its specialized agencies.

The Association currently has 160 members in 80 countries and cooperates with over 500 other institutes and international agencies worldwide.
