Sheikh Nahyan welcomes ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 Trophy to UAE

DUBAI, 25th September, 2014 (WAM) -- H.H. Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development, and Chairman of the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB), has welcomed the arrival of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 Trophy to the U.A.E..

The trophy is in the U.A.E. this week as part of Victoria Week, an annual initiative undertaken by the Australian State Government of Victoria to drive deeper relations across business, trade, investment, sport and tourism with the Middle East.

Bringing the trophy to the U.A.E. was John Harnden, CEO of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 Local Organising Committee, who presented the trophy to Sheikh Nahyan along with John Butler, Victorian Commissioner to the Middle East, Africa and Turkey and Ms. Kim Debenham, Deputy Head of Mission from the Australian Embassy.

Melbourne, the capital of the Australian State of Victoria, will play host to five matches during the ICC Cricket World Cup, including the final at the famous Melbourne Cricket Ground.

The U.A.E. team has qualified for cricket’s pinnacle 50-over tournament to be held in Australia and New Zealand from 14th February to 29th March next year.
