President of Azerbaijan receives Emirati delegation

BAKU, 5th December, 2022 (WAM) -- Ilham Aliyev, President of Azerbaijan, received Mohammad bin Abdullah Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs, who is heading an Emirati governmental delegation visiting the Azeri capital, Baku.

During the meeting, the two sides signed a cooperation agreement aimed at exchanging expertise in areas of government modernisation between the UAE and Azerbaijan.

Aliyev welcomed the Emirati delegation and lauded their distinguished relations and overall partnership, stressing the keenness of Azerbaijan to improve its partnership with the UAE and enhance their cooperation.

Al Gergawi said that the UAE, under the leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and with the directives of Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, is keen to enhance its strategic partnerships with friendly countries. He said that the signing of the cooperation agreement with Azerbaijan is a key milestone in the government knowledge exchange programme launched by the UAE.

The bilateral cooperation agreement, which promotes the exchange of government expertise, was signed by Al Gergawi and Olvi Mehdiyev, Head of the State Company for Citizen Companies and Social Innovation of Azerbaijan. It focusses on eight pillars, which are government excellence, government services, government capacity building, competitiveness and statistics, policies and strategies, government performance, and government accelerators.

The signing of the agreement was attended by Abdullah Nasser Lootah, Director-General of the Prime Minister's Office at the Ministry of Cabinet Affairs, Mohammed Murad Al Balushi, UAE Ambassador to Azerbaijan, and several Azeri government officials.

The partnership agreement is an extension of the close relations between the two friendly countries and a meaningful step to improving their model of positive cooperation in modernising government work and exchanging knowledge and experiences, Al Gergawi said.

“The cooperation agreement will play a key role in enhancing the cooperation between our two countries and their government institutions, especially in light of their strong relations. We will share Azerbaijan's experience in managing ASAN service centres,” Mehdiyev said.

The UAE and Azerbaijan have distinguished relations in the areas of the economy, trade, energy, sustainability and other sectors.
