WAM, major Russian media institutions discuss boosting cooperation, review Global Media Congress outputs

MOSCOW, 18th December, 2022 (WAM) -- A delegation from the Emirates News Agency (WAM), headed by Mohammed Jalal Al Rayssi, Director-General of WAM, discussed with officials from a number of major media institutions in Russia, boosting cooperation in the fields of news exchange, media training programmes, and sharing experiences.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of WAM's participation in the “Russia - Islamic World: Practical Steps in Media Cooperation” international conference, which was held in the Russian capital, Moscow, with the participation of more than 50 representatives of media organisations around the world.

The meetings are in line with WAM’s ongoing strategy to strengthen its international partnerships with the Russian media and to build a broad network of strategic relations with international media outlets.

The WAM delegation met with Ekaterina Mavrenkova, Chief Content and Strategy Officer at Ruptly, to discuss future cooperation, Farit Mukhametshin, Member of the Russian Federation Council and Vice Chief of the Group of Strategic Vision “Russia – Islamic World”, Sergey Mikhailov, Director General of Russia's TASS, with which a cooperation agreement was signed during the Global Media Congress (GMC), and Vasily Pushkov, Director of International Cooperation at Sputnik News Agency and Radio.

During the meetings, the sides discussed the available opportunities to enhance cooperation between WAM and Russian media institutions in various fields related to media work, in addition to reviewing the GMC’s outputs and sharing the results.

The meetings also explored ways of bolstering cooperation, especially with regard to the 'Tolerance Charter for News Agencies and Media Outlets', which WAM launched with the aim of enhancing international cooperation and joint work on creating media content that promotes tolerance, intercultural dialogue, coexistence and acceptance.

The Russian officials welcomed the participation in WAM’s Tolerance Charter, noting that such values are essential to achieving global stability and prosperity. They also praised the outputs of the Global Media Congress, which was held in Abu Dhabi, and their importance in shaping the future of the media sector worldwide.

Moreover, the WAM delegation visited the headquarters of Russia’s RT news channel, where Alexey Nikolov, RT’s Director-General, welcomed Al Rayssi and the accompanying delegation. During the visit, they learned about the channel's work programme, in addition to reviewing the prospects for enhancing cooperation between the two sides.

Al Rayssi affirmed that the UAE, under the leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, is keen to enhance cooperation with all countries of the world in various fields, driven by the values of tolerance, peace, coexistence and dialogue, to help drive sustainable development and achieve stability and prosperity globally.

He said that Russian media institutions have an incredible track record that provides an opportunity to build promising partnerships, which can be further consolidated through experience and knowledge exchanges and leveraging Russian media platforms to spread the UAE’s developmental and humanitarian messages and showcase its achievements to the world.
