UAE, China cooperation in addressing climate change an example to be followed: CCTV

BEIJING, 1st May, 2023 (WAM) -- A report by China Central Television (CCTV) highlighted China’s keenness to cooperate with the UAE to ensure the success of COP28, which Dubai will host in November 2023.

The report noted that the two friendly countries are aware of the urgent need to address global challenges and capitalise on the hosting COP28, to undertake serious measures to reduce the effects of climate change. Their partnership involves investing in renewable energy sources, encouraging sustainable transportation methods, and implementing carbon absorption and capture technologies.

China will utilise its significant expertise in the field of renewable energy to support the UAE’s objective to generate 50 percent of its electricity from clean sources by 2050, the report added, stressing that the ongoing cooperation between the UAE and China in addressing climate change is a global example to be followed, as they share knowledge and expertise in implementing renewable energy policies, reducing carbon emissions and preserving natural resources.

This cooperation will produce effective strategies and produce a collective impact on the effects of climate change, the report pointed out, affirming that the UAE and China represent an example that reflects the importance of cooperation to ensuring a sustainable future for everyone and noting the related meeting between Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, and COP28 President-designate, and Ding Xuexiang, Vice Premier of the People's Republic of China in Beijing.

During the meeting, Al Jaber said that Beijing’s support would be key to taking practical measures to prepare for hosting COP28, the report further added, stressing that China is working hard to limit carbon emissions and achieve carbon neutrality as part of the country’s strategy to address climate change, and under a comprehensive vision to achieve sustainable development.
