ABU DHABI, 10th August, 2023 (WAM) -- The upcoming Global Media Congress in Abu Dhabi will provide a wonderful opportunity for the Japanese media and government officials in public affairs to expand network with global media and public relations executives of other countries, a top Japanese diplomat told the Emirates News Agency (WAM).

Akio Isomata, Ambassador of Japan to the UAE, said “I hope the Congress will further enhance the UAE’s positioning as a hub for global media activities.”

He added that Japanese embassy officials in charge of public relations will attend the Congress. “I am sure interested members from the Japanese media will also attend it.”

Japanese media invited to 2nd GMC

During a recent visit to Japan, a WAM delegation met with several Japanese media leaders and officials, and invited them to participate in the second edition of the Global Media Congress (GMC) that will be held in November at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre – ADNEC, Abu Dhabi. The Japanese media officials warmly received the invitation and welcomed the initiative.

Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Presidential Court, and organised by ADNEC Group in partnership with WAM, the prominent international conference-cum-exhibition will take place from 14th to 16th November, 2023.

The first edition of GMC in November 2022 under the theme “Shaping the Future of the Media Industry,” had attracted over 13,656 visitors.

Japan-UAE media cooperation

The Japanese envoy said the Global Media Congress is an innovative platform for the media and people in public relations to share their knowledge and challenges in coping with rapidly transforming digital society, and to enhance their cooperation.

Isomata said there is more room for the Japanese and the UAE media to enhance their cooperation.

“Sharing news reported in the UAE with the Japanese media would enhance the Japanese people’s understanding on what is happening in this region, and vice versa. Various exchanges between media people of Japan and the UAE could also enhance understanding between the two countries,” he explained.

WAM’s Japan visit

As WAM reported, a WAM delegation led by Mohammed Jalal Al Rayssi, Director-General of the WAM, visited Japan last month and met with media officials and institutions to explore ways of enhancing their cooperation to foster more media, cultural and intellectual interactions between the two countries.

The delegation toured various locations in Japan, such as Keio University in Minato, Tokyo, as well as Mainichi Shimbun and Kyodo News. They also visited the Asahi Shimbun newspaper.

The team also visited several media-related institutions, including the University of Tokyo, Fuji Television, Abema TV, TBS, Riken, and the National Press Club.

The Japanese Ambassador said a UAE TV channel’s coverage of an international event in Japan made an impact on the UAE audience.

“Japan hosted G7 Summit Meeting in Hiroshima in May this year and we invited a TV team from Sky News Arabia. The news reported by them from Hiroshima gave a first-hand information not only about G7 Summit Meeting but also about Japanese society and its people. I hope it has contributed to enhancing the understanding of Japan among the people in the UAE,” Isomata said.
